Basic Gifting Mistakes To Avoid

There are some things that should never be given as a gift. Top of this funny list is medicines. How would you feel if somebody gave minoxidyl to you as a gift? You may end up feeling sick, literally and metaphorically. The list of medicines includes health powders and shakes. Just skip this point altogether. Let the person take care of his or her health without any external assistance. If you are so concerned, go in for a book instead. Even this is a dodgy gifting option.

Personal hygiene items are best avoided. Why? Firstly, it is a matter of personal choice. If you give something that the person does not use, you may inadvertently cause an embarrassing situation. Secondly, it is a gift that can easily be misconstrued. Gifting deodorants on your friend’s birthday may send a subtle message that he or she stinks. This is not how you want your gift to be remembered, right?

Thirdly, avoid trinkets and similar stuff when you are certain that it will not be very useful. A wind chime is a great gift for a young girl who has just been allotted her own room. On the other hand, it may not be very useful for an office colleague who is sharing space with two other persons in company quarters.

Whatever you do, never make the mistake of justifying your gifting mistake by focusing on the sentiment. The gift should convey the sentiment. If it does not do so, do not try to prove how your sentiment is superior and that the mishap involving the gift should simply be ignored.
